This pattern is intended for an intermediate or advanced beginner crochet skill level. This Peplum Top was designed by Elizabeth Gonsalves and debuted in Trinidad, a sunny, tropical, twin island located in the Caribbean, also known as Trinidad and Tobago. I used Coboo Lion Brand Yarn for this Project (one of my most favourite yarns). To make this peplum top, I have sectioned the steps into 4 parts. These include making the cups in the round using a variety of stitches with majority being front post & back post Double crochets. Then making the bottom panel which includes the flower waist band & the flared bottom. Then joining the bottom panel to the cups, & lastly the straps will be made and attached. Please Read through the pattern before starting to familiarize yourself with the process.
BEHIND THE DESIGN:
This design, like most of my others, is inspired by nature & my surroundings! The factor of texture & shape also plays a big part!
The cups represent chest eyes, specifically the flowers in the centre. The breasts are such beautiful feminine features that deserve to be respected & appreciated in all wholeness. Breasts have long been objectified, hypersexualized, and shunned rather than being respected & understood. That’s why I decided to make them one of the biggest focuses in this pattern & to embrace it!
The middle waistband & straps also have flowers! Flowers with their infinite variety & beauty speak a timeless language. They arise from soil & enjoy being out in the sun & rain; quite like myself I must say!
The bottom gathered hanging frill, represents palm leaves. Palms are symbols of peace and eternal life & is often associated with Paradise! In my daily life, I am surrounded by these trees in my yard & all around my country! And even blessed palms laying around in my house as we celebrate Palm Sunday each year as part of my family’s religion.
